Early 20th Century Mix Up
This type of pottery is called Nemadji pottery, created by the Minnesota-based Nemadji pottery company. In the early 20th century, people were mistaking the name of the company for a Native American tribe who is also called the Nemadji. It worked to their benefit as they promoted the pottery as being “Indian inspired” , over the years people honestly thought this type of pottery was authentic Native American works of art—- little did they know- this was not the case!
